Crossing the Line Activity
1. I picked Germany and Poland for two countries that would merge together into one. The country that I chose to be likely to split is Bangladesh. The southwest edge of Bangladesh would break off from the main country, forming Bangabhumi.
2. The reason for Germany and Poland should unite is for a stronger economy in Europe. In 2013, 2nd president of Poland Lech Wałęsa stated that the boarders of Europe are changing and he feels they do not matter as much anymore. The history between the two countries have not been great, but are steadily improving. He believes the two countries' relationship stable enough now for them to merge soon for the greater good of the economy in Europe. As for why Bangladesh would split, the southwest corner of Bangladesh is heavily populated by hinduism followers, unlike the rest of the country. The boarders have caused several fights, including a micro-war in 2011.
3. Germany and Poland are based off of geological boundaries. As for Bangladesh and Bangabhumi, this would be a cultural boundary. Bangabhumi would contain most of the hindu population, thus separating both countries based off of religion.
4. The new boundaries for Bangabhumi and Bangladesh may help end some conflict between them. They have been fighting about this issue for a while and gaining these boarders may reduce problems between the two and help end the violence between them. Germany and Poland merging would be a benefit for the European/global economy.
